A leap into the unknown

Rey Esteban is a young man from Guatemala who worked in Canada for the first time during the 2023-2024 season as a landscaper. It was his first experience outside his country, away from his culture and family.

After successfully completing his work period, he returned to his homeland, where he now transports passengers in curious motorized taxis called tuk-tuks by the locals.

His greatest achievement this year has been completing the construction of his house.

The Leap into the Unknown

Esteban had never imagined leaving Guatemala. However, he was interested in finding a stable and steady source of income to improve his quality of life. After several years of waiting and searching, the opportunity to go to Canada finally came, thanks to Equinox:

“Equinox took care of everything with commitment and planning. They guided us through each stage and never left us alone. That made all the difference because leaving your home is not easy, but knowing that someone is there to support you gives you confidence and peace of mind.”

In Canada, this young man worked in landscaping, a job he performed for almost a year. His interest in this trade is closely tied to his great passion for crops and plantations.

His time in Canada not only allowed him to see snow for the first time, as he had longed for, but also to discover significant cultural differences compared to his home country:

«In Canada, respect and discipline are present in every corner, whether in the streets, public transportation, or at work. Seeing how everything functions in an orderly manner and how they value the efforts of others truly inspired me», he explains.

A Hug from the Soul

During his stay in Canada, Rey Esteban managed to save enough to complete one of his most important projects: finishing his house. He had been working on it for years, but financial difficulties had prevented him from completing it.

“Every day we work for our families, and this opportunity allowed me to offer them a more promising future. Returning home and seeing my loved ones’ smiles was the best experience I could have had,” he adds.

Currently, Rey is in the process of renewing his contract with his employer and eagerly anticipates returning to Canada. His goal this year is to refine his skills and learn French, convinced that this will be key to his success.

Meanwhile, back in his native Guatemala, he remains confident about the upcoming season in Canada, partly thanks to the continuous support he receives from Equinox World.
