From doubt to confidence: key information for a successful process in Canada

Every year, hundreds of temporary workers dream of a new opportunity in Canada. However, many face uncertainty regarding procedures, the legitimacy of the process, and cultural adaptation. To promote transparency and confidence in Equinox’s processes, this year we organized informational sessions to guide our potential candidates through each stage of recruitment.

This time, the destination country was Guatemala, specifically the localities of Escuintla and Chimaltenango. A team from Equinox traveled there between January and early February, consisting of recruiters, integration team members, and communication staff.

Against all odds, in just three sessions, we gathered approximately 600 people. Beyond the numbers, the real impact of these meetings lies in the trust and connection that attendees established with our company.

According to Karen López, an Equinox recruiter in Guatemala, these sessions have been fundamental for candidates to better understand the requirements, streamline their applications, and reduce errors that could delay their recruitment. According to the specialist, such encounters also ensure the selection of better-prepared and motivated workers.

Life-Changing information: key preparation before migrating

“Migrating is not just moving to another country; it’s adapting to a new culture, understanding the rules, and preparing for a different life,” says Yankiel Sarduy, Director of Integration and Communication at Equinox, who also participated in the informational sessions.

During the talks, Sarduy addressed the challenges of temporary migration, labor regulations, and the support the integration team offers to candidates and clients. He also spoke about cultural adaptation, the climate, labor rights, and worker benefits.

“Meeting workers in their own cities and understanding their social reality, living conditions, and needs significantly helps us to better support them. The same applies to clients, to whom we can provide better recommendations based on what we have seen here,” concludes Sarduy.

Real impact: changing the landscape in Guatemala

A key element in these sessions was the participation of workers recruited by Equinox, who shared their experiences in Canada. Their testimonies not only validated the process but also inspired attendees by showing how they have achieved financial stability and well-being for their families.

Karen García, an Equinox recruiter, points out that Guatemalans have long been victims of scams and false promises that have hindered their chances of working abroad. “In these sessions, we identified the most common tactics used by scammers and contrasted them with the transparency of Equinox’s processes, providing greater peace of mind and confidence to attendees,” she concludes.

The communities of Escuintla and Chimaltenango have witnessed the positive impact that temporary work in Canada generates. During our journey, we heard stories of Equinox workers who have been able to buy land and build their homes, as well as others who have sent their children to university.

The greatest satisfaction for Equinox after completing this project has been confirming the real impact of our work on the lives of the people we support—in this case, Guatemalan workers.
