The new President of Mexico has been elected!
Claudia Sheinbaum was elected President of Mexico on June 2nd, marking a historic moment for the country! Distinguished as the first woman to hold this office, she was followed in the polls by another woman, Xochitl Galvez. Her election symbolizes change and carries a message of hope for all Mexican women.
We hope that her term will strengthen the already strong ties between Canada and Mexico. This year, our two nations are celebrating 80 years of strong and prosperous diplomatic relations. This closeness with Mexico has allowed us to develop our expertise with Mexican workers. Additionally, Equinox World is the only international recruitment company in Quebec with an office on site in Mexico.
Canada is a welcoming land, receiving many visitors and students from around the world each year. Regarding employment, our economy cannot do without Mexican labor. In 2022, a record number of over 50,000 workers were welcomed to Canada under the Temporary Foreign Worker Program (TFWP), an increase of 28% compared to the previous year. Mexico is the top source of foreign workers.
Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s office announced that he has spoken with President Sheinbaum. Together, they discussed topics of mutual interest and the importance of strengthening bilateral relations between our two countries. They also emphasized the importance of developing our economies and providing equitable opportunities for every generation within the framework of the Canada-United States-Mexico Agreement.
