Worker’s Guide: the first step toward a successful season

Working abroad can be a challenge for both experienced and new workers alike. A survey conducted by Equinox in 2024 with approximately 300 active recruits confirmed that the moments of greatest uncertainty include post-recruitment procedures, travel preparation, the flight, and arrival.
To provide better support for candidates recruited by Equinox, our team developed a Worker’s Guide this year. This material is already being distributed among our workers, and its usefulness is evident in every interaction our recruiters have these days.Un outil pour la réussite
A Tool for Success
According to Jeanne Desjardins, Equinox’s Foreign Worker Coordinator, this document serves as a quick reference tool where workers can find additional support to complement the assistance we provide.
The guide is handed out in print to each Equinox candidate throughout February by our recruitment team. “More than just a manual, it serves as a compass that guides each worker through their travel preparation and stay in Canada,” explains Desjardins.
What Does the Guide Include?
- Recruitment and References: A detailed explanation of the selection process, requirements, and interviews. It also provides contact information for the recruitment and integration teams, who are available to answer any questions and assist candidates at every stage.
- Health and Well-being: Information on health insurance, access to healthcare services, and workplace safety measures to ensure the physical and mental well-being of each worker.
- Taxes and Legal Obligations: Explanation of applicable taxes, administrative procedures, and labor regulations to help workers comply with their responsibilities from the start.
- Life in Canada: Key aspects of the climate, culture, lifestyle, social norms, and work expectations for a smooth integration.
- Travel Preparation: Tips on packing, essential documentation, financial aspects, and everything necessary to ensure a safe and confident arrival.
- First Steps Upon Arrival in Canada: Essential procedures, registration with local authorities, opening bank accounts, and strategies for a quick and effective adaptation.
A Necessary Complement
Equinox World’s experience in international recruitment has demonstrated the need to implement multiple strategies, channels, and communication tools to better support workers.
The value of this document lies in its ability to provide clear instructions and a detailed overview of our company’s recruitment process, ensuring that workers arrive well-informed and ready to integrate into their new work environment.
